At True Colours Consulting Inc., our core values are safety, connection, and transparency.
Our staff are trained to follow our learners’ leads in sessions and always honour when our learners tell us no, whether with words or actions. Self-advocacy is essential for learners of all abilities to keep them safe in all areas of life and develop meaningful relationships with those around them. We wholeheartedly believe in backing off early before our learners must escalate their voices or bodies with distressed behaviour to meet their needs.
This is where the power of choice comes in. Sometimes, just like us, our learners want to complete an activity or task but just need a little bit more time or to get into a different head space. Could you imagine if someone told you you must read for 15 minutes right this second and that you could not do anything else first? Even if reading is a preferred activity (it’s one of ours!), it doesn't always feel nice when we don't have a choice. Sessions with True Colours are always fun, fluid, learner-led, and relationship-focused.
Our delivery of data-driven ABA teaching services grows continuously as we keep up to date with research and practices in the field. For more information from one of the BCBAs that inspired the foundations of the True Colours Way, please read A Perspective on Today's ABA from Dr. Hanley (2021).
